Hello! My name is Lee 소라 Beckwith. My pronouns are they/them. These days, I’m living on Lenape land (Bronx, NY), and you can contact me at lee dot beckw at gmail dot com. The only “social” “media” I use is are.na.

I completed my undergraduate degrees in computer science & environmental justice on Tongva land. Then, I spent two years on Tunxis land working towards a Master’s of Education while simultaneously teaching high schoolers about computer science, ethics of robotics, game design, creative writing, and environmental humanities.1 Most recently, I conducted a year-long practitioner inquiry project examining possibilities for rethinking power structures in the classroom through curriculum negotiation in a class about computational creativity.

I enjoy growing food, taking pictures of the sky, collecting tiny rocks/shells/seaglass, solving and creating crossword puzzles, reading poetry, biking, knitting, printmaking, and going for all sorts of walks.

computer science research-y things
I've worked with Esri’s educational branch to develop a set of learning modules at the intersection of computer science and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). These modules explore the physical dimension of technology—such as undersea internet cables, e-waste, and rare earth elements—while simultaneously introducing students to key computer science principles.

I've also worked on a variety of applied computer science research projects at the University of Washington, Portland State University, and the Santa Fe Institute. These projects have all utilized computation as a tool for solving environmental problems: predicting climate-induced migration, accounting for clouds in climate models, and creating algorithms for disability-friendly pedestrian routing.
